The Loring Commerce Centre, managed by the Loring
Development Authority of Maine (LDA), includes about 8,700 acres
of land, 2.8 million square feet of facility space and a 12,100
foot runway capable of handling the world's largest aircraft. Industries
suitable for Loring were identified by an extensive Target Industry
Market Study and an Aviation Task Force Study and include agriculture/food
processing; forest products; information based companies; large
space users; transportation distribution; aircraft maintenance;
repair & overhaul (MRO); air cargo operations and other niche
markets.
The LDA is an independent authority of the State of
Maine, created by an act of the 116th Maine State Legislature on
July 13, 1993. The LDA's mission is to acquire, manage and develop
properties within the geographical boundaries of the former Loring
Air Force Base, now known as the Loring Commerce Centre. New businesses
on Loring have created over 1,000 new job opportunities in serveral
industries and occupy approximately 1.6 million square feet of space.
The LDA continues to market the remaining real estate available
on Loring including approximately 1.2 million square feet of building
space and hundreds of acres of open space that have municipal and
utility infastructures in place and are ready for new construction.
